The Journey - New Zealand
Auckland Beaches
Known as 'The City Of Sails' It is New Zealand's biggest urban area and well known for it's outstanding beaches. Mission Bay, Takapuna and Devonport are just a few to mention close to the CBD and each one of them have stunning views over looking the Hauraki Gulf. Rangitoto Island, close to Auckland is widely visible from many of the beaches and is a stunning backdrop for many photos.
Mission Bay
Close to the CBD with a fine selection of bars and restaurants this popular summer time beach resort is the busiest beach in Auckland. The water fountain near the beach is a big tourist attraction so don't be surprised to see crowds of people trying to get selfies in front of it. The whole grass area next to the fountain appears to be a kids playground or so it seems. It's not rare to see whole family's playing rugby or football.
Devonport
Over the narrow stretch of water you will find the charming district of Devonport. Home to two great look out points. North Head, a former World War 2 coastal defence site is quite fascinating with it's weapons of destruction & underground tunnels. Close by Mt Victoria offers amazing views of the city and Hauraki Gulf. Devonport can be accessed easily from the city by ferry or transport over the iconic harbor bridge.
St Hellier's
A close by neighbor of the famous Mission Bay only with less people. With it's white sand, gentle waves and equally as impressive views overlooking Rangitoto Island this is a personal favorite of ours in the Auckland region. Close by up the hill you have Achilles Point, an amazing viewpoint looking out over the ocean.
Auckland To Coromandel
The east coast from Auckland to the Coromandel is filled with stunning rain forest and beautiful beaches. Each cove along the way is as impressive as the next. It may not be the quickest way to get to the Coromandel but it certainly is the scenic route.
Maraetai
Just a short drive out east of the city brings you to the crystal clear waters of Maraetai Beach. With pristine white sand, the bluest of waters and a few lovely shops this destination is the perfect summer getaway. The Cafe along the water front does a mouth watering apple crumble!
Takapuna
Yet again another popular beach town situated on the North Shore. As with a lot of the Auckland beaches you have the same magnificent view overlooking Rangitoto Island. With a good selection of shops, restaurants and a great park for the kids Takapuna is a great day out for all the family
