The Joys Of Driving

Driving through Arthur's Pass was mind blowing!

Driving around New Zealand puts the fun back into driving, it seems no matter where you are in the country you are never too far away from a scenic drive out. The roads in New Zealand don't tend to be busy especially those in the South Island, even the motorways are only one lane wide with the odd overtaking lane opening up every so often. Coming from the UK it was a whole new experience for us, the place seemed deserted. A lot of the chaotic roads are found in the Auckland region, being the biggest city you can understand why. At peak times Auckland can be manic, the two of us lived there for over 6 months and it is the only place I can relate to in terms of UK traffic. Most of the time when we are driving we don't tend to take many pictures but we have put together just a few snap shots to give you an idea of what you will be encountering on your travels.

Key Points

Speed limits tend to be 50km/h in urban areas & 100km/h is the limit on highways

Vehicles drive on the left hand side of the road

A lot of the scenic roads really twist and turn you around cliff edges, be extra cautious

Always park your car facing forward, I was fined for parking the other way around
