Hanmer Springs

Hanmer Springs is a small town in the Canterbury region of the South Island. It is a popular holiday destination in the summer months offering plenty of activities to get your adrenaline pumping. Bungy jumping, jet boating and mountain biking are among many of the crazy activities available in the region.

The two of us visited on a more subtle approach. Once again we drove there from Christchurch which took us 3 hours. The first half of the journey was pretty boring but then as we crept closer to Hanmer Springs the scenery emerged, more of those big mountains, blue lakes and clear streams. Once we arrived to the town we went for a short stroll up the near by hills, as always in New Zealand the views where spectacular. Afterwards we had a splash around in the town's famous natural hot springs.

As you approach Hanmer Springs you are surrounded by lush greenery, mountains and deep blue streams

A view from the town

Right next to the center you are only minutes away from the forest filled with walking tracks for all fitness levels. Each track give you amazing views

A short walk up the Conical Hill brings you to an impressive viewing platform. Standing on a rock seemed cooler at the time though :)

The natural hot springs are open all year round, it is a must do activity in the area!

After a brisk walk the hot springs are the perfect way to relax those aches and pains away
