The Journey - New Zealand
Lake Tekapo & Pukaki
Lake Tekapo is located in the inland South Island of New Zealand. It is a popular tourist destination and a short drive away from New Zealand's tallest mountain, Mt Cook. Whilst in the area we climbed Mt John which was short yet steep and the views from the top were astounding. Mt John has a star gazing observatory, it was chosen for it's very clear atmosphere and large number of clear night skies. On our visit to the charming town we camped over by the lake side. In the day we rented bikes and enjoyed the tracks leading through the forests near by.

Lake Pukaki is located very close to Lake Tekapo and Lake Ohau and is the largest of the three lakes. The lake is easily recognised by it's distinctive blue colour created by glacial flour. Whilst driving from Tekapo to Mt Cook you have the pleasure of driving alongside the blue waters, it is magical.
The vivid blue colour of the water is astonishing to see up close
Just a short but steep climb near the town is Mt John, the perfect spot for 360 degree views of the area
