Mt Tongariro

Set in Tongariro National Park, New Zealand's first national park and one of the earliest in the world you have the 1978m monster Mt Tongariro. It is one of the three main active volcanoes found in the center of the North Island and last erupted in early as 2012. One of the popular walks in the area is the Tongariro crossing. Taking between 6-9 hours you will pass extraordinary scenery, Mt Ngauruhoe (Mt Doom in The Lord Of The Rings Fims), Red Crater and The Emerald Lakes are among the best.
